Man's destiny is determined by his actions. Through righteous actions, the mind is purified and a pure mind results in an awakening of spiritual wisdom (Jnana). When you offer worship to God in the morning, you must offer your obeisance to whatever work you propose to do. You must pray to the presiding deity of action (Karma): "Let me do today only pure, purposeful and helpful actions.

You also have to cleanse the senses, the instruments of action and knowledge and remove all the blemishes of bad habits, bad tendencies, feelings and thoughts. Render yourselves pure, steady and unselfish. Then only can you deserve the chance of worshipping the God within.

Today, there is pollution in everything, such as the air we breathe, the water we drink, the sounds that are jarring to the ears and the food we consume. Because of this all-round pollution, man’s health is affected. Apart from this, man’s mind is also polluted, making him susceptible to diseases. Man should make an earnest endeavor to lead a serene and pure life. He should realize the truth that troubles and turmoil are temporary, like passing clouds. There is no scope for agitations to arise if one realizes this truth.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 27/Ch. 3, International Cardiovascular Conference, January 21, 1994

Every student should undertake good actions (Satkarmas) which lead to purity of mind (Chitta shuddhi). Where there is purity, there will be the dawn of wisdom (Jnana siddhi). These are all within yourself only. You need not search for them anywhere outside.

I direct you to implant three ideals in your hearts: (1) Do not forget God; (2) Do not put faith in the world you see around you; it is changing every second and does not last; (3) Do not be afraid.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, March 29, 1972

Young age is very important and sacred. In fact, it is the golden age. It should be free from the rust and dust of evil qualities. Students should have good qualities. All that they see, speak, hear, and do should be sacred. It is, therefore, necessary that first of all they fill their heart with love for God.

Both inner and outer purity are essential for man's physical and mental health. Most people are concerned about external physical cleanliness. People tend to ignore inner cleanliness in the belief that the heart and mind are not visible to others. But they should realise that the physical body is made up of five elements and will return to the dust sometime or other. It is the state of the spirit that is important. Even the body should be regarded as the abode of the Spirit and cared for as such.

A clear mirror reflects the rays of the sun. We can see the sun’s image reflected by the calm surface of clear water. Likewise, the sacred vision of the Supreme Self (Paramatma) is revealed to an unperturbed and tranquil mind in which all thought waves have been calmed. A pure and holy heart will mirror the Divine glory of Paramatma.

If you shed your ego and experience Divinity, you will get rid of your pain and enjoy lasting bliss. The Upanishads teach through stories the subtlest truths. You should understand their inner significance and taste the nectarine sweetness. This is possible only when there is inner purity (Bhava-shuddhi). Purity of heart leads to Self-realisation (Siddhi).

The story of the festival Onam is that of Emperor Bali, who was an embodiment of sacrifice (Thyaga), but who suffered from traces of ego (Ahamkara). Due to the predominance of other virtues and Lord Vishnu’s Grace, Emperor Bali overcame the ill-effects of ahamkara and attained mergence with Lord Vishnu, who appeared as Vamana. Bali personified the principles of sacrifice, charity and righteousness till his very end.

Understand that God will never tolerate anger and ego. Why are we egoistic? Is it for physical beauty or strength of the senses or intellectual acumen or wealth? None of these is permanent. God has gifted every human being with Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-violence. Develop these qualities. On this special day, I bless you all to cultivate a good nature, lead a virtuous life and journey from goodness to ‘Godliness’ (Madhavathwa).

What is wisdom? Purity of thought, word and deed is true wisdom. Your body, mind and actions must be pure. On this basis it is said, “The proper study of mankind is man.” It means that the unity of thought, word and deed is true humanness.

Do not try to find fault with others; search, rather, for your own.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, March 29, 1972
Sunday, August 30, 2020
One who aspires to realise the principle of the Self and teach the same to others should first of all develop purity of heart. One who lacks purity of heart is not eligible to realise the Self and teach the same to others. The principle of the Self cannot be attained merely by education, scholarship and intelligence. Purity of heart is of utmost importance for this.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 29/Ch. 90, September 2, 1996

Pure vision leads to pure thoughts. Pure thoughts result in pure actions. Purity in action is essential for human existence. Purity in thoughts and purity in speech must lead to purity in deeds. This is the triple purity hailed by the sages. When this purity is manifest, human life gets redeemed. The principle of ‘Help ever, hurt never’ becomes the governing principle of daily life.

You are the embodiment of Supreme Self (Brahman). Consider yourself as Brahman. Always live in the constant awareness, “I am Brahman, I am Brahman.” When you develop this awareness, you will become Brahman.

All of you want bliss. If you follow Me, you will be always in a state of bliss. In fact, bliss is in you, with you, around you, above you, and below you. You are the embodiment of bliss.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 29, Ch. 30, July 30, 1996

You perform various types of spiritual practices to attain Supreme Self (Brahman). In fact, Brahman cannot be attained through such practices. Only through enquiry can you understand the principle of Brahman. Use your sense of discrimination and enquire.

All are embodiments of the Supreme Self (Brahman). Do not belittle yourself, saying you are a mere human being based on differences of names and forms. To see diversity in unity is a sign of ignorance. Not being able to understand the truth is also ignorance.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 29, Ch. 30, July 30, 1996

True spiritual practice lies in understanding one's true identity. One should enquire, "Who am I"? All the spiritual practices are meant to make you realise who you really are. Everyone uses the term 'I' while introducing themselves. It means that the principle of 'I' (Self) present in you is the same as the one in others.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 36, Ch.21, December 25, 2003

The duty that each one owes to himself is to clear the heart of fear and grief, to fill it with Love and Dedication.

Vinayaka is the Lord who removes all obstacles. The elephant is noted for its acute intelligence. Ganesha's elephant head symbolises sharpness of intellect and the highest power of discrimination. In a forest, when an elephant moves through the jungle, it clears all the obstacles, and leads the way for others to follow. Likewise, worship Ganesha at the start of any activity. His Grace is sufficient to clear all the obstacles in your path and grant success in your undertakings.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 22/Ch. 27, Students Hostel, September 4, 1989
Saturday, August 22, 2020
Lord Vinayaka’s elephant-head denotes that He can be compared to an elephant in intelligence, which always thinks twice before setting its foot forward. Lord Vinayaka is full of wisdom. The name Ganapati denotes that He is full of higher wisdom (Vijnana), discriminatory wisdom (Sujnana), and constant integrated awareness (Prajnana). People today forget the underlying meaning in the name Ganapati and engage themselves in mere rituals. You may not perform any rituals, but never give up worshipping Lord Vinayaka.
Sri Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 37/Ch. 18, Ganesh Chaturthi, September 18, 2004
Friday, August 21, 2020
Lord Vinayaka is the leader of all, He has no leaders or master. Whenever a new task is undertaken, it is customary to invoke Lord Vinayaka’s blessings for the successful completion of the task. When you pray to Him and seek His blessings, all your efforts will meet with success.

Ganapathi means the Master of Ganas. The ten senses, mind and intellect—these twelve are the Dwaadasa Adityas or twelve Ganas of which Ganapathi is the Lord. So, he resides in every person in the form of intellect and Jnana or wisdom.

Surrender implies that the individual will, should become one with the Divine will. Obey the Divine command implicitly without questioning. That is the sign of true devotion. Whatever God does, is for your good.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Sankranti, January 15, 2000
Tuesday, August 18, 2020
Surrender does not mean that the devotee and God are different. True surrender implies the sense of oneness with God. “Without You, I cannot exist,” should be the attitude of the devotee.

You must feel the pain of others as your own; you must be happy when others are happy. That is the way to realise the unity of all. Above all, be vigilant; for, the fruits of spiritual practice (Sadhana) may be destroyed by negligence. When the rains come, the earth is again green, for the seeds of grass are underground, though you thought the land was dry and fallow. Good company, good deeds, etc. (Satsang, satkarma) have to be kept up, all through life.
