Call to Action for Humanitarian Relief in Southeast Asia
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Om Sri Sai Ram.
In the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, countries in Southeast Asia, including Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia, have experienced severe flooding, one of the worst natural disasters since the 2004 tsunami. According to the BBC, as of December 2, 2025, more than 1,300 people have lost their lives. In Sri Lanka, more than 25,000 homes have been destroyed, and approximately 150,000 people have been displaced. This catastrophe has created urgent humanitarian needs.
SSSIO Sri Lanka responded immediately, providing relief to those facing food and drinking water shortages. Their efforts included supporting flood-affected residents in Colombo and other regions. On November 28 and 29, 2025, SSSIO volunteers including several Young Adults distributed hundreds of lunch and dinner packets, water bottles, and milk powder to families with children. Several hundred individuals were compassionately served during these relief activities. Many additional service initiatives are ongoing in Sri Lanka and Indonesia, with SSSIO members continuing to assist displaced communities during this challenging time.
SSSIO Humanitarian Relief Committee and SSSIO Zone 4 (Southeast Asia) are exploring ways to assist the affected people, in view of the fact that intense efforts and significant resources are required for long-term recovery and rehabilitation. You can find more details about this relief work here and it will be updated it as we receive more information.
Many devotees have asked how they can help support the victims of this tragedy. If you wish to participate, please visit the Sri Sathya Sai World Foundation webpage and include “Cyclone Ditwah Flood Relief” in the message or memo section of the check or wire transfer instructions. Also, please send an email to info@sathyasai.org with your contact information and instructions, stating “Cyclone Ditwah Flood Relief.”
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has said that sincere prayer is one of the most effective ways to assuage grief and suffering. Let us intensify our prayers to Swami to shower His divine blessings on everyone affected by this major disaster.
